Bennet Caffee has been in six different psychiatric hospitals, seven if you want to count the one he used to work in. “Orange you glad to be in Miami? is about the first four. When Bennet was twenty-one living in Aspen he took a big dose of LSD and hitchhiked three hundred miles to see The Stones in Ft Collins, Colorado. At the concert he looks around “All these people are here for me”. When he can’t get a ride back he’s sure it’s a sign - “Ft Collins is where it’s going to happen.” Four psychiatric hospitals and three months later he’s living at home with his parents. Since he had so much fun talking with other patients he decides to become a psychiatric nurse.
“Orange you glad to be in Miami” is an origin story for Caffee’s previous show “My First Miracle” which he’s performed at Fringe Festivals around the country including Tampa Fringe in 2022. Because his episode was triggered by LSD, he wasn’t diagnosed bipolar until 15 years later in a Bangkok psychiatric hospital, where “My First Miracle” begins.
