My Huck Finn FUNeral
This is the story of a woman dying of cancer in the time of COVID. Knowing that she won't be able to have the traditional tag-team funeral of her Baptist upbringing, with at least three, probably four, preachers taking turns describing the hell fire & brimstone awaiting her, Betty Jean Steinshouer decides to throw herself an online funeral.

The first few people she asks to speak turn her down, so she sends out a group email to about fifty friends, family, and colleagues, promising to show up and listen (in the tradition of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn at their own funeral). Much to her delight, THIRTY people agree, so she spends what she thought would be the last year of her life recording zoom sessions with them. That was 2022.

During the editing process, half a dozen HFF participants went on ahead, mostly from cancer. Others have ghosted, for reasons unknown. The project has taken on a life of its own. After decades of filling tents & auditoriums with her portrayals of famous dead authors, Betty Jean will find out what it's like to play herself, not dead at all. It'll be fun - you'll see!
